Prepare for a Photoshoot: Clients’ Guide

Looking for tips on how to get ready for a photoshoot?

Let’s dive right in!

Here’s an important secret: at least half of the success of your photoshoot comes from how well you’re prepared.

And here’s another: the final result doesn’t just depend on the photographer—it also depends on you.

Surprising, right?

Prepare for a photoshoot: what to do first?

1. Clothes. This is one of the most important moments.

When preparing for a photoshoot, I strongly recommend you to read the following article. It’s a complete guide on what I recommend to wear for the shooting. Especially useful for couples and families.

  • Briefly, your clothes should match in color and style and suit the season.
  • The basic rule to follow is to pick not more than three chromatic colors. Chromatic color – it’s all the colors of the rainbow and their derivatives.
  • White, grey and black are achromatic, so you can blend them bravely.
  • Choose clothes of noble colors—soft, pleasant to look at, not annoying. You may bring with you several sets, it would be helpful to diversify the shooting.

2. A little bit about black color…

Separately, I want to speak about black color . Its perception is multifaceted, because it depends not only on the color itself, but also on the texture and the form.

A long luxurious flowing black dress on a lady and a black matte tuxedo on her knight – YES! The black down jacket on the guy and the black jacket on the girl – NO.

3. Footwear.

Comfort is key, without losing elegance. Flats or wedge shoes are the best choice. But if you’re set on wearing high heels while walking on cobblestones, bring them along—just make sure you have a comfortable backup option!

4. Preparing for a photoshoot: accessories.

Consider bringing extra accessories that reflect your unique personalities as a couple. Items like personalized signs, fun hats, or colorful scarves can add a playful touch to your photos. You might also consider renting a vintage car, boat, or scooter for a charming and nostalgic vibe.

These elements can enhance your photoshoot and create a beautiful story that captures your essence together.

I’d truly appreciate it if you take a moment to check out my selection of ideas.

5. Setting the Right Atmosphere

Please ensure that everyone involved in the photo session is excited about the experience or, at the very least, doesn’t dislike the idea. If someone is strongly against participating and is only coming because they were pressured into it, it’s better not to force them.

A photographer can set up the perfect shot, but they can’t fix a grumpy expression. That’s why keeping the atmosphere light and positive is your responsibility!

Preparing for a Photoshoot: Beauty Tips and Considerations

1. Skin preparation.

Begin moisturizing your skin at least two weeks before the photo session—and remind your boyfriend or husband to do the same! Don’t forget lip balm for soft, hydrated lips.

Please avoid any strong skincare treatments right before the shoot.

Steer clear of tanning or prolonged sun exposure, especially while wearing partially open clothing like T-shirts. Also, remember to take off any watches to avoid white marks on your wrists.

2. Hairdo.

I prefer simplicity. Girls with their hair down and a slight wave look the most flattering and feminine. Fancy hairstyles with lots of pins can wait for more formal occasions.

Just a heads-up: sparkly hair spray may look great in person, but in photos, it can appear like dandruff.

3. Make-up.

It’s best to hire a professional makeup artist who can cover any flaws that might show up in photos but aren’t visible in the mirror.

If you can’t get a makeup artist, make sure to apply foundation to even out your skin tone and enhance your eyes. Avoid beauty products with a pearlescent finish.

Don’t forget to bring some powder and facial blotting tissues with you!

We are @ Prague on 08-05 and 09-05 and we would like to have an appointment to take pictures of myself with my husband and kid (family photo shoot)

Do you have time in any of these 2 days ?? If so I would like to know the cost for the same.

      Thanks & Regards,
      Sheela

Разумно взять на зимнюю фотосессию на улице термосы с горячими напитками – это позволит не только согреться, но и сделать несколько милых кадров.

      Hello !

I am amazed with all the information provided and all the great pictures on your website. My husband and I will be in Prague for 2 nights next week (Mon and Tue) and are looking to capture Prague’s magic through a candid picture photoshoot around the city (1-1.5 hrs). Just wondering your availability for either of those days and pricing structure. Thanks!
