Winter is not a reason to skip your pre-wedding shoot in Prague. Honestly, this city in winter is something else. The streets are quieter, the lights are softer, the whole place feels like a little fairytale with warm Christmas lights, decorated trees, and that cozy atmosphere you simply don’t get in summer. A Winter Pre-Wedding in Prague gives you a chance to create something different — atmospheric, intimate, and truly romantic.
But yes, winter does ask for a bit more preparation.
How to dress for a Winter pre-wedding in Prague
Let’s be real. If you show up in a dress with bare shoulders thinking you’ll “just handle it,” you won’t. The cold always shows in the photos. Shoulders tense up, your smile turns stiff, your face freezes. And the last thing we want is you trying to look relaxed while your whole body is shaking.
Warm = beautiful. It’s that simple.
So choose a dress where you can layer thermal underwear underneath. Ideally something long enough to hide warm boots. And on top — not a thin shawl, but a warm coat or a fur jacket. It looks elegant, it photographs beautifully, and most importantly — it lets you smile naturally.
For the groom: thermal shirt under the dress shirt, thermal leggings under the trousers, thick wool coat, warm boots. And trust me — this looks stylish. There is absolutely no need to freeze to look good.
I actually have a separate guide all about what to wear for your pre-wedding photos, with examples and tips on how to put together outfits that look great on camera and still feel like you. You can read it here: https://ovsyannikova.com/pre-wedding-shoot-outfits-and-look/
Everything I said above about warmth still stands — thermal layers under the dress, long sleeves if possible, long skirts that allow room for warm tights or leggings, a proper coat, fur jacket, or something cozy that you can actually move in. The more comfortable you are, the more natural you’ll look. That’s the whole point.
And one more thing I really need to emphasize.
Please don’t choose dresses with huge heavy trains. I know they look dramatic in catalog photos, but in real life, especially for a winter pre-wedding in Prague, they are almost impossible to manage. Only if you can’t lift and carry the train gracefully in one hand.
Otherwise, it will drag on the ground — and in winter the ground is always damp, wet, or slightly dirty. Your train will be completely dirty within the first 10 minutes of the shoot. I’m begging you, don’t do this. Choose something elegant, flattering, and practical enough to move in. Your future self (and your photos) will thank you.
Choosing a hotel: your warm base
The second key to a comfortable winter pre-wedding in Prague is having a beautiful hotel. Think of it as your home base. We warm up, take getting-ready photos, portraits, details, maybe a few elegant indoor shots — and then step outside for short sessions. For example, the Mozart worked beautifully for this shooting.
Winter light + classic interiors = perfect combination.
And if you want something extra, we can book an indoor location: Clementinum, a museum hall, a historic library, a cozy café with character. Yes, some of these spaces require a fee — but this is how you get images that are unique and not like anyone else’s.
Little things that make it even better
• Timing — Days are shorter, so we shoot earlier. Winter light is amazingly soft and flattering.
• Christmas markets — Until mid-January, the decorations are gorgeous. Perfect for dreamy street scenes.
• Accessories — Scarves, wool coats, gloves, fur shawls — they add style and warmth.
• Hot drinks — A cup of mulled wine or coffee instantly relaxes you and looks adorable in photos.
• Warm-up stops — We plan these ahead, so the whole shoot feels comfortable and fun.
Why a Winter pre-wedding in Prague is worth it
It’s about atmosphere. Quiet streets, warm lights, slow moments, real closeness between you two. There is something incredibly romantic about two people holding each other close in the cold, laughing, staying warm together.
